  1. Identify at least three key words in this passage? Why are these words important to the meaning of the text?
  2. Identify the verbs and find their tense (past, present, etc..) and voice (active / passive / middle)?
  3. What conclusions can you draw from the verb tense and voice?
  4. Summarize this passage, in your own words, into one sentence.

Small Group Questions
1.  Discuss the three reasons Jesus gives Nicodemus as to why he must believe Jesus’s teaching.  How do these reasons encourage our faith in Jesus and His word?
2.  Consider the illustration of the bronze serpent in Numbers 21.  How does that help us understand our need for salvation and what it means to look to Jesus in faith.
3.  Discuss the fact that the new birth precedes our response to the gospel in faith.  Why must the new birth come first? 
4. How should this passage produce gratitude in us for Christ’s sacrifice on the cross?
